3D printed IOMs. What’s out there?
This article is simply a list and excerpts of some 3D designs that were available when this article was compiled in Sept 2024. If you have a new design or an update to an existing design, then please contact us and we’ll add it in. Some files where not available at the time I compiled this article. They are in no particular order and I’m not recommending one design over another. A forum or facebook is a good place to discuss the merits of one design over another. NOTE: All text excerpts and imagery are from the respective websites and social media.
Parabellum C10 by Ernst Rohner
Plans and STL files can be ordered from Ernst. The parts can be produced on a 3-D printer or ordered online from 3-D printer companies. Ernst has provided a comprehensive Q&A on the C10. And here’s a link to files and component pricing.
…“I'm thrilled to introduce the new Parabellum C10 IOM, an evolution of the C9 boat. After five years of continuous development, this model has reached a highly refined and thoroughly tested state. I am now offering the design files for both the C9 and C10 to interested home builders or licensed manufacturers. Depending on your time and dedication, you can build the entire boat yourself, including the sails, or just specific parts. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or expressions of interest...”

Skiff Prototype V3
Not yet available when this article was put together, but looks interesting…
…From what was learnt with the first two prototypes, V3 was designed and constructed. So, what is it about this one?
V2, was fast from the start and has won many a club race here on the pond at Dunmore in AUS. With Covid restrictions we can only club sail, but fortunately we have a solid and competitive fleet here, making it a good test bed scene for trialing the various designs. It was a bit wider than V1 and showed that one can go too skinny with these IOMs…
GLD 08
Some files and information relating to the GLD 08 were unavailable when this article was compiled.
…With the experience gained with the GLD-05 and the GLD-06, I have realized that I had to be able to build a boat by assembling as few parts as possible to minimize the probability of the pieces becoming unstuck over time and increasing further stiffen the entire boat to further improve longevity.
So the great advance that I have achieved with this development is not the shape of the hull itself, but the way in which the ship is printed in spiral mode or vase mode. All internal structural parts and reinforcements (keel box, shroud reinforcements, stay reinforcements, etc) as well as external fittings (shroud anchors, backstay, stay, sheet passages, etc) are printed at the same time as the skin of the boat…
ALIOTH - 3D Printed IOM
Files and 3D printed kits are available on their website.
…The project gathered the experience of the lead project designer Juan Egea, who contributed with his extensive experience in the IOM Class and the design team, who worked exhaustively in achieving modern, functional and harmonic shapes. The purpose is to put on the water a 3D printed IOM hull, easy to assemble at home, and at a low price, capable of winning races at the highest level…

IOM Sabre. A lovely fast design
All Files are copyright FREE!
…This is the latest IOM prototype from a longish development period going back over two years. As stated elsewhere, we were very reluctant to release a design until the right material had been found (PLA+ from esun) and the boat was competitive. So, introducing the Beta Sabre from Bill Hagerup. I’ve been sailing this design since mid 2018 and love it. It seems fine across the spectrum of conditions from short chop, long wavelength and flat ponds.very encouraging…
