Scratch Race 5 2nd March 2025
Today’s competitors experienced the initial winds from Cyclone “Alfred,” which brought fresh southeast winds. The cyclone (Category 2) is currently off the coast of Bundaberg, moving down the coast and expected to make landfall near Brisbane later this week.
The southeast winds created conditions for swift races. Twelve IOM and nine DF65 boats participated, all using smaller rigs due to the weather. The day presented challenging racing conditions. Avoiding nose dives on the downwind leg and dealing with oscillating winds on the upwind leg were key factors. As a result, the lead changed multiple times during each race.
We extend our thanks to the scoring team, race officers, and all participants. It was a wonderful day of racing.
