Muir Marine 1650 Event 13th Oct 2024
This year’s Muir Marine 1650 Classic was a resounding success, with a great turnout. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Muir Marine for their continued sponsorship of this annual event. Muir Marine, a local company with over 100 years of history, provides essential materials and services to the yachting and boating community.
The sailors gathered under light rain showers, which fortunately cleared before the start of the race. As the morning progressed, steady southeast winds increased to around 10 km/h, creating excellent racing conditions.
The annual 1650 event is a relay race, with each team consisting of an IOM and a DF65 skipper. One fleet is chosen to start first, beginning as a scratch race. As each boat crosses the finish line, their teammate races over the start line. The winner is the first of the second fleet to cross the finish line.
The event concluded with a BBQ and the presentation of bottles of wine to the winners.
Once again, thank you to everyone involved in this event, especially Muir Marine for their sponsorship.
Footnote: For those wondering why 1650? The event features IOMs and DF65s, which together measure 1650mm (1000mm + 650mm).
