About the JL Sullivan Trophy
It is a handicap race for both IOMs and DF65s. The race is held annually at Manly Harbour.
Who was John Sullivan
John Sullivan was an inaugural member of WMRMYC in 1994. Incorporation took place in 1995. He initiated the concept of a Club Newsletter, Tell Tales. This newsletter was successfully produced by Life Member Bruce Mathers for many years.’
John was very supportive of Handicap racing. His wife donated the silver cup to the Club in (check 1st shield on trophy), to be used for a Handicap event. John had won this in big boat racing.
In 2023 the Club decided that the DF65 Class had a sufficient number of competitors to qualify for their own trophies within the Club. All existing trophies were duplicated and three new ones added for both Classes (IOM and DF65). These are New Years Trophy, Vice Commodores Trophy and the Treasurers Trophy.
The DF65 version of the JL Sullivan Trophy was donated by Peter Kampe. Peter Kampe is a long standing member and our race officer and has been building IOMs for many years but us contemplating moving to a DF65 as he get on in years.. haha!
