Wynnum Cup 1st October 2024
What a cracking practice regatta in the Wynnum Wading pool. Beautiful sunny day.
The wind early was a light south westerly. During the morning, the wind swung to the south east and gradually increased to around 15 knots. The increasing wind strength called for many rig changes and caused a few boat/rig failures. It was clear that more practice is needed for rig changes. Don was busy helping skippers change rigs. Thanks Don.
I recently spoke about when to change down rigs after my poor experience at the S.E.Qld Championships. The decision to change down should be based on the frequency and ratio of pressure between the lull and gust.. Low frequency and high ratio do not change. High frequency and low ratio do change down.
As the morning progressed the wind pressure built and became more constant (low ratio between lulls and gusts). The skippers that changed to B rig late in the morning sailed through the fleet downwind.
There were 8 heat winners.
